Lego, the famous building block, is celebrating its 60th anniversary. In 1934, Ole Kirk Kristiansen named ‘Lego’ after two Danish words, ‘Leg Godt’, that mean ‘play well’. In 1958, the Lego brick as we recognise it today became patented.
The company says that now there are 915,103,765 ways to work with the two-dot-by-four-dot brick!
The company often works with film franchises to update the toy for different times. It also has theme parks around the world of famous places made out of Lego.
Difficult words: patent (when the government gives a right to a company to be the only one to make something for a certain time), two-dot-by-four-dot brick (the rectangular brick with eight dots on it), film franchise (a set of movies about a story like ‘Harry Potter’ or ‘Star Wars’).
