China’s Naval Parade – level 2

China showed off its new military force at a naval parade. People could see new nuclear submarines, and they could see a new generation of destroyers last Tuesday.

The parade celebrated the Chinese navy which the country created 70 years ago. China’s President Xi Jinping has a goal to turn the country’s navy into a ‘world-class force’. China is also working on new military planes and aircraft carriers (a ship which can carry planes). A new aircraft carrier, which people built completely in China, was not at the parade because people were testing it at sea.

Difficult words: military (related to fighting, such as the army), naval (of the navy – the part of the military which fights at sea), destroyer (a type of military ship).
