Yemen Peace Deal – level 3
13-11-2019 07:00
Last Tuesday, the Yemeni government signed a deal with the separatists called the Southern Transitional Council, STC.
The two sides signed the deal in Saudi Arabia’s capital, and broadcast it live on Saudi state TV. The aim of the deal is to end the power struggle which has lasted for many months.
According to the Saudi ambassador, the STC will be included in a new government, and its armed forces will be under government control. The Saudi Crown Prince hopes that the deal will help end the civil war in Yemen which has lasted four years.
Difficult words: aim (a goal), power struggle (a situation when two sides compete to get control or influence, and it is not clear who will win), armed forces (a country’s army, navy and air force).
