Huawei on Blacklist – level 3
20-11-2019 15:00
There are worries that Chinese telecom firms like Huawei can threaten US national security. However, these worries come from what is not known about them, rather than what is known.
Currently, there is no evidence that Huawei threatened US national security. Some reviews have discovered faults in Huawei’s equipment; however, they have not found evidence of any dangerous activity.
Huawei is a private company, but its relation to the Chinese state is not clear, and it is possible that the state can have an influence on it. Huawei’s officials promised more transparency about the company’s structure in the future.
Only Australia, New Zealand, and Japan blacklist Huawei currently. The company is likely to provide a new generation of wireless networks worldwide, so national security remains an important question.
Difficult words: threaten (to put someone or something at risk), fault (a mistake), transparency (clarity), blacklist (to list people or things that are regarded dangerous).
