Virginia Gun Laws – level 3
21-02-2020 07:00
In Virginia, USA, the governor and some lawmakers wanted to pass a law that would ban the sale of some semiautomatic firearms and magazines that hold more than 12 rounds.
However, other lawmakers, including four moderate Democrats, voted to reject the ban. The state has been in an ongoing debate about gun control, and it is in the process of passing some new laws. One is to limit the buying of handguns to once a month and another is to require universal background checks on gun purchases.
Difficult words: semiautomatic (when something can mostly move without a person touching it), magazine (a gun device that holds bullets), universal (for everyone).
