Hole In the Ground – level 3
25-08-2020 07:00
On Wednesday evening, a state CCTV caught the ground open up in front of a shopping mall in China. An entire outdoor parking space collapsed when a massive sinkhole opened up and it devoured at least 21 cars.
According to reports, 15 vehicles were recovered from the site, mostly wrecked, and there were no casualties. Authorities in the country are still investigating the cause of the accident; however, the current weather in the area could be the culprit. The shopping mall is situated in Sichuan province which is experiencing torrential rainfalls currently.
Sinkholes have become more common all over the world in the past few years, and they have damaged many vehicles and caused injuries to their unsuspecting victims.
Difficult words: devour (to destroy completely), culprit (the cause of something bad happening), casualty (a death), sinkhole (a hole in the ground that is formed naturally by water or erosion).
