City in Orange Fog – level 1
16-09-2020 15:00
There are big fires in California. They are the worst fires in history. More than 14,000 firefighters try to stop the fires.
However, the weather does not help. It is dry and windy. More than 2.3 million acres burn already. The situation is critical.
People in San Francisco, California, wake up one morning. They cannot believe what they see. The sky is orange. Dark orange fog is everywhere. People think that it is the end of the world.
Experts explain what happens. The fires make big clouds of smoke and ash. The clouds stay low above the ground. The sun cannot shine though the thick clouds. The sunshine makes different shades of orange.
Difficult words: critical (very serious), ash (a grey powder that stays after something burns),shine (to make light),shade (a different light or dark form of one color).
