People Attack the US Capitol – level 1
12-01-2021 07:00
On Thursday, the US government says that Joe Biden is the new US president. It is the last formal step for him to be president.
The US president, Donald Trump, is not happy. He repeats many times that the election is not fair. He speaks to people near the White House on Thursday. Thousands of his fans come to the White House.
Trump says that it is important to fight for the truth. Some people get angry. They walk to the US Capitol building. The US Capitol is the seat of the US government.
People want to get inside the Capitol. They break windows. They fight with police. They get inside the building.
Politicians must leave quickly. The place is not safe. Police use guns. Police shoot a woman. She dies in hospital. Several people also die and some are hurt.
Difficult words: formal (something public and official), election (when people vote somebody for a job in politics), seat (an important place for a government, a place where people sit).
