Somalia Hotel Attack – level 1
05-02-2021 15:00
Mogadishu is the capital of Somalia. A group of men attack a hotel in Mogadishu. The attack happens on Sunday evening.
A bomb explodes in a car in front of the hotel. Then, a group of men run inside the hotel. They start to shoot. They fight with the police. The shooting lasts until early morning hours.
Nine people die in the attack. Four dead people are the attackers. These people are Islamists. Islamists are people who strongly believe in Islam. They are aggressive. They attack people.
The situation in Somalia is difficult. The government plans elections in December last year. Some people believe that the president wants to have an impact on the elections. It is possible that the president wants to change the elections. Many people get angry. They start to fight in the streets.
Difficult words: aggressive (a person who is very angry, and he attacks other people), elections (when people choose a person for a job in politics), impact (when somebody changes how something else happens).
