Nazi Germany cipher machine – level 2

23-08-2024 15:00

The Enigma Machine was a cipher machine for Nazi Germany. During World War II, they used it to encrypt messages.

Alan Turing was a British cryptanalyst who worked with a team to solve the machine’s codes. After this happened, German Fritz Menzer developed another cipher machine called SG-41. This machine used more complicated rules, so the codes were more difficult to solve.

In 2017, a treasure hunter found SG-41 in a forest. Someone maybe hid the machine underground, so people could find it when the war ended. Now, SG-41 is in a museum in Munich, Germany, and thanks to modern technologies, visitors can look inside it.

Difficult words: cipher (a coded message), encrypt (to change information or data into a secret code), cryptanalyst (a person who solves messages in codes).

You can watch the original video in the Level 3 section.

What was the purpose of the SG-41 cipher machine developed by Fritz Menzer?
