Oil-free Lego bricks – level 2
19-06-2023 15:00
Lego, a famous toy company from Denmark, stopped trying to make its bricks without using oil-based plastics.
Lego found out that a new material which they tried actually produces more carbon emissions. Lego’s CEO said that they tested many materials but couldn’t find a good one but they are still working on this and want to make their toys using eco-friendly materials by 2032.
Lego started trying to replace plastic bricks with eco-friendly ones in 2020. The hard part is finding a material that is good for the environment and still looks and sounds like the old plastic bricks.
Difficult words: oil-based (using oil or materials which come from oil), eco-friendly (not harming the natural world), replace (to use something instead of something else).
You can watch the original video in the Level 3 section.
What challenges is Lego facing in their efforts to replace plastic bricks with eco-friendly materials?
