Poland is afraid of Russia – level 3

13-02-2024 15:00

Poland, alongside Germany and the Netherlands, has signed the ‘military Schengen’ agreement, aiming to improve troop mobility among European states.

The agreement is a response to security concerns heightened by Russia’s behavior, and it facilitates rapid aid for Ukraine and enhances NATO’s eastern flank readiness. Polish Defense Minister Wladyslaw Kosiniak-Kamysz emphasized the necessity of swift troop mobilization in light of the conflict in Ukraine. Dutch Ambassador Daphne Bergsma highlighted the significance of military mobility in addressing geopolitical challenges.

For Poland, deeply involved in internal and external security issues, initiatives like military Schengen not only bolster security but also strengthen its EU standing following a change in government.

Difficult words: facilitate (to make an action or process easier), mobilization (movement of troops), bolster (to support or strengthen).
