Too much electronic waste – level 2
02-04-2024 07:00
People keep more unused unused electronics than they did four years ago, a report says.
People kept about 20 items four years ago, but now it is about 30 items. The most popular items are remote controls, phones, and hairdryers. The UN says that there is more electronic waste than companies can recycle. The amount of electronic waste is growing too fast. We are all responsible for this problem, although we want to recycle electronic waste.
It is important to get rid of electronic waste properly because there are valuable materials in it. Using these materials again saves resources. Also, sharing or repairing would make things last longer. The problem is that companies often make products which last only a few years and it is not possible to repair them.
Difficult words: remote control (a device which we use to control our TV), waste (things and materials which people throw away because they no longer need them), valuable (very important or helpful).
You can watch the original video in the Level 3 section.
How can we encourage companies to make longer-lasting and repairable electronics?
