Time on the Moon – level 1

08-04-2024 07:00

The White House wants a new time for the Moon. They ask NASA to do it. They will call it Coordinated Lunar Time (CLT).

Time goes faster on the Moon than on Earth. This happens because of gravity. Gravity is different on the Moon. Time moves 58.7 microseconds faster on the Moon. CLT will help everyone who goes to the Moon work together. It is important to have the same rules for everyone who goes there. NASA has until 2026 to do it.

Professor Catherine Heymans knows a lot about stars. She says that everyone needs to use the same time when they go to the Moon.

Difficult words: gravity (a force which holds planets and stars together), microsecond (one-millionth of a second), rule (something what people agree on and they must do it).

You can watch the original video in the Level 3 section.

What is the significance of having the same time when going to the Moon, and how will Coordinated Lunar Time (CLT) help achieve this?
