Buses without drivers – level 2
19-04-2024 07:00
Commuters in Seoul are using the world’s first driverless night bus.
Self-driving taxis are not so unusual anymore, but autonomous public transport in city centers is a new thing. A BBC reporter took a late-night ride on the Seoul autonomous bus. The vehicle uses modern technology which costs millions. The bus operates smoothly, but a driver is present for emergencies.
Some people believe that autonomous buses will solve problems with public transport in the city, especially for late-night travelers. South Korea spends a lot of money on autonomous vehicles, but there are still troubles with it. It is expensive and it is not possible to use it everywhere.
Difficult words: commuter (a person who travels to work or school), autonomous (a vehicle or machine which works without people), present (when a person is at a place).
You can watch the original video in the Level 3 section.
What are some benefits and drawbacks of using driverless night buses in Seoul's public transport system?
