TikTok’s special technology is its recommendation system. It makes it different from other apps.

TikTok’s algorithm suggests videos based on what you like, not just who you know. This makes TikTok popular worldwide. Its short videos help the algorithm learn faster about what you like. TikTok also helps users find new things, not just what they already like. This technology started with a Chinese app called Douyin and got better with time.

ByteDance is TikTok’s Chinese owner. China’s rules made it tricky to sell the app in the US. Now, US officials are pressuring ByteDance to sell the app’s US assets. If ByteDance doesn’t do it, officials may ban TikTok in the US.

Difficult words: recommendation system (a tool which suggests videos), algorithm (a program which suggests content), asset (a thing which a person or company owns).
