Truong My Lan is a rich businesswoman from Vietnam. She steals over 12 billion dollars. She gets a death sentence. She is asking for a new trial.

Lan starts buying cheap land in the 1980s. She starts a real estate company. Her company becomes the biggest company in Vietnam. Later, she takes money from a bank. She uses fake companies. Her case is part of Vietnam’s plan to stop corruption. It has a big impact on the country’s money.

Some people are worried about business rules in Vietnam. But big companies like Samsung and Apple are still putting money into Vietnam. It is a good place for making products.

Difficult words: death sentence (killing someone who commits a crime), trial (a formal meeting in a court), real estate company (a company which buys and sells land and buildings, corruption (when powerful people do bad things).
