Stockholm fish tunnel – level 2
28-10-2024 07:00
Sweden made a new fish tunnel for fish that are weaker swimmers.
For almost 380 years, these fish couldn’t swim freely between Lake Malaren and the Baltic Sea. This new tunnel gives them a way to move, which will help make more types of fish live in the lake. The tunnel is part of the Slussen lock system in Stockholm. Fish like salmon can jump, but some other fish are not strong enough.
The tunnel has stones, which makes it look natural. There is also a camera to watch the fish. Even otters got in the tunnel. The goal is to help fish grow in number and improve the environment in the lake.
Difficult words: tunnel (a passage through something), lock (a part of a canal or river with gates), natural (what nature makes, rather than people).
You can watch the original video in the Level 3 section.
What is the purpose of the new fish tunnel in Sweden and how does it benefit the environment in Lake Malaren?
