Dr. Copper – level 2
14-03-2025 07:00
Experts sometimes call copper Dr. Copper because its price can show how strong the global economy is.
This year, copper prices are up nearly 14%. This would normally mean the economy is getting better and industries, especially in China, need more copper. China has plans to help people buy more things, but trade problems between the US, China, and Europe make the situation less clear.
The price difference between local copper and UK copper was 920 dollars per metric ton on February 10th but dropped to 816 dollars by February 28th. This is still high, but not as much as before. In the past, the difference was between 250 and 500 dollars. This big difference might be because of trade problems, not a strong economy. Right now, investors are not sure if copper’s price is a good sign.
Difficult words: copper (a red-brown metal), metric ton (1,000 kilograms), investor (a person or company who puts money into something to make more money).
You can watch the original video in the Level 3 section.
How might ongoing trade challenges be influencing the recent changes in copper pricing and its perceived economic implications?
