Tough Guy Event – level 1

People organise a race in England. Around 5,000 people run in the race. It is 8 miles long (13 kilometres). This race is very hard. There are many obstacles in the way.

The runners must overcome fire, cold water, mud and much more. A man from Britain wins. His time is 1 hour and 36 minutes.

People call the race the Tough Guy Event. A person who is tough is strong. The word guy means a man.

Difficult words: obstacle (a thing which makes something difficult), overcome (to fight), mud (dirt mixed with water).
