Notting Hill Carnival – level 1
05-09-2016 07:00
Notting Hill is a district in London. The Notting Hill Carnival takes place there every year. It is Europe’s biggest street party. It is the second biggest carnival in the world.
The carnival begins in the ’60s. Only a few hundred people come. It grows bigger every year. This year is its 50th. Two million people come. The weather is nice. Everybody has a good time.
There are 9,000 police officers at the carnival. They protect the people. They try a face recognition technology. This technology can find “bad” people.
Difficult words: district (a part of a city), take place (happen), face recognition (recognise a face – to know who somebody is).
You can watch the original video in the Level 3 section.
