A girl dies after drinking hot chocolate – level 1
21-08-2024 07:00
A tragedy happens at Costa Coffee in London.
Hannah Jacobs is 13 years old. She drinks hot chocolate from Costa Coffee. Her mother tells the workers that Hannah has a dairy allergy. But the workers make a mistake. There is milk in Hannah’s chocolate. She has a bad reaction. She dies. This is like what happens to Natasha Ednan-Laperouse in 2016. She eats a baguette from Pret a Manger. She dies, too.
Now, people are asking for better allergy training in restaurants. They want workers to learn more about allergies, and they want to see all allergens on menus. They also think it is important to teach children about allergies in schools.
Difficult words: tragedy (a very sad event or situation), dairy (a product which has milk in it), allergen (a substance which causes an allergic reaction).
You can watch the original video in the Level 3 section.
What do people want to see implemented in restaurants to improve allergy awareness and safety?
