A man tries to kill Donald Trump – level 3

16-07-2024 07:00

The FBI has named the gunman who attempted to assassinate former US President Donald Trump. The suspect, 20-year-old Thomas Matthew Crooks, was shot and killed by the Secret Service.

The incident occurred during a rally in Pennsylvania where Trump was speaking to a large crowd. Gunshots were heard, and Trump was seen bleeding from his right ear, though he was not seriously hurt. The attack also resulted in the death of one spectator and critically injured two others. FBI special agent Kevin Roek confirmed that they are treating it as an assassination attempt.

President Biden condemned the attack, called it sick, and stated that there is no place for such violence in America. The FBI, alongside state and local police, is actively investigating Crooks’ motive. The Secret Service released a statement detailing how the gunman fired from an elevated position and was subsequently neutralized. Trump plans to attend the Republican National Convention as scheduled.

Difficult words: assassinate (to kill an important person), subsequently (after something else), neutralize (to prevent from being harmful).
