Australia’s dangerous highway – level 2
17-09-2024 15:00
The Bruce Highway in Queensland is a dangerous road with many accidents happening on it. The road is often only one lane in each direction, and this causes many fatal crashes.
From 2018 to 2022, over half of the 149 deaths on the highway happened in head-on collisions when two vehicles hit each other directly. Families of the victims are asking for the government to make the road safer. Betty Stuart, who lost her husband in an accident, wants improvements like better road lanes.
The government promised to spend money on fixing the highway, but people think it is not enough. Drivers say this is the worst road in Australia and want urgent changes to stop more accidents from happening.
Difficult words: direction (the way that someone or something is moving), fatal (deadly), victim (a person who is hurt or killed by a crime or accident).
You can watch the original video in the Level 3 section.
What improvements are being demanded by the families of victims who lost their lives in accidents on the Bruce Highway in Queensland?
