Australia’s Fires – level 2
03-01-2020 07:00
In Australia, about 100 fires are raging, and fires burned about 7.5 million acres so far.
In the state of Victoria, tens of thousands of people evacuated because of the fires. However, officials told people who live far from cities that it was too late to leave, and they should take shelter indoors.
Hundreds of thousands of people are asking the government to cancel a New Year’s Eve fireworks show in Sydney. They want to use the $4.5 million for the show to help firefighters or people affected by the fires. The Australian Prime Minister said that he will not cancel the show.
Difficult words: rage (to act violently or intensely), take shelter (to look for safety), affected by (when something causes something else to happen).
