Battery factory fire – level 1

01-07-2024 07:00

A fire in a South Korean factory kills 22 people. The factory makes lithium batteries.

The fire starts after the batteries explode. But we do not know why. The fire starts on the second floor where they store things. Someone sees it start from a spark. Firefighters come quickly because lithium batteries can burn very strongly. Many workers stay inside the building and cannot get out. Most workers are from China. After many hours, firefighters go inside and find the bodies. South Korea’s Prime Minister visits the place. The government will help the families of the dead people. Officials are still trying to find out what causes the fire.

Difficult words: factory (a place where people make things), spark (a small flash of fire), prime minister (the boss of a government).

You can watch the original video in the Level 3 section.

What measures is the South Korean government taking to support the families of the victims of the factory fire?
