Battery factory fire – level 2

01-07-2024 07:00

A fire in a South Korean lithium battery factory killed 22 people.

The fire started after battery cells exploded in the warehouse, but the cause is still unknown. The fire trapped many workers inside, most of them foreigners, including Chinese workers. The fire began on the second floor. An eyewitness said it started from a spark. Firefighters quickly came because lithium batteries can burn very strongly and for a long time. After fighting the fire for hours, firefighters went inside and found the bodies.

South Korea’s Prime Minister visited the plant and promised help to the victims’ families. Officials will investigate the cause of the fire.

Difficult words: warehouse (a room or building where people store things), eyewitness (a person who sees something happen), victim (a person who is hurt or dies in an accident or other event).

You can watch the original video in the Level 3 section.

What measures will be taken by officials to investigate the cause of the fire in the South Korean lithium battery factory?
