Brazil plane crash – level 3

13-08-2024 07:00

A tragic plane crash occurred on August 9 near São Paulo, Brazil, killing all 61 people on board.

The turboprop plane was en route from Cascavel to São Paulo’s international airport when it suddenly entered a flat spin and crashed in the town of Vinhedo. Video footage captured the aircraft spiraling uncontrollably before hitting the ground and causing a large explosion. Although the exact cause is unknown, experts speculate that ice buildup or engine failure could have contributed to the loss of control. The plane’s black box has been recovered, and investigations are ongoing, involving both Brazilian and international experts.

Authorities initially reported 62 passengers but later confirmed that 57 passengers and four crew members were on board. This crash is the deadliest in Brazil since 2007.

Difficult words: turboprop (a type of aircraft powered by a turbine engine), en route (on the way), initially (at first).
