Britain healthcare crisis – level 2

28-08-2024 07:00

Healthcare in Britain is getting worse, with long waiting lists and not enough doctors and nurses.

Chloe Kirbyshire’s daughter has a serious eating problem, but Chloe has been waiting six months to see a specialist. Many other patients are also waiting months or even years for help. The previous government didn’t spend enough on healthcare, causing these problems. Doctors and nurses are leaving their jobs because of bad working conditions, and many suffer from mental health problems. Some even took their own lives.

The new government promises more money and shorter waiting times, but the situation is still very bad, and people are worried about the future of healthcare.

Difficult words: specialist (a doctor with special knowledge), previous (the one before now), working conditions (working hours, wages, workload, and other things related to a job).

You can watch the original video in the Level 3 section.

What are some of the reasons contributing to the worsening healthcare situation in Britain, as mentioned in the text?
