British Man Freed in UAE – level 1
30-11-2018 15:00
A British student goes to the United Arab Emirates to study. In May, a court has a hearing with this student. People think that he is a spy.
The student does not have his lawyer there. People say that the hearing is fast. They say that the British media cannot be there.
The court says that he is guilty. It sends him to jail. This shocks the student’s family. It shocks the UK government.
Suddenly, the UAE’s king lets prisoners free. The student is one of them. This is for two reasons. His family asks for forgiveness. It is also for the relationship between the two countries.
Difficult words: hearing (a legal event), guilty (that he was a spy, that he did something illegal), government (the ‘bosses’ of a country).
You can watch the original video in the Level 3 section.
