Can Biden win again? – level 3

11-07-2024 07:00

The first 2024 presidential debate between Donald Trump and Joe Biden was disastrous for Biden. At 81, Biden often appeared confused, while 78-year-old Trump seemed more collected.

Voters and the Democratic Party noticed Biden’s poor performance, and there is now speculation about other potential candidates. Biden insists he will stay in the race; however, many believe he should step aside. Elizabeth Holtzman, a former Democratic Congresswoman, suggests that the party is giving Biden time to decide himself. If he can’t convince Americans of his fitness for office, more politicians will call for his replacement. Possible candidates include Vice President Kamala Harris, California Governor Gavin Newsom, and Michigan Governor Gretchen Whitmer. Holtzman believes that if Biden cannot reassure voters, other Democratic candidates could energize the race and defeat Trump.

Although Trump also has issues with mental fitness, the Democratic Party needs a strong candidate to counter him. Holtzman thinks governors with experience in handling large problems could step in effectively.

Difficult words: collected (calm and self-controlled), energize (give vitality or enthusiasm to), counter (to speak or act in opposition to).
