Central Europe floods – level 2
17-09-2024 07:00
Many places in Central Europe have flood warnings because of heavy rain. The worst situation is in Austria, the Czech Republic, and Poland.
The rivers in these areas are getting higher, and people are worried the flooding could get worse. In Romania, flash floods already caused several deaths, and many people had to leave their homes. In Poland, people are using sandbags to stop water from entering their houses. Austria declared some areas as disaster zones.
Experts say that weather like this may happen more often because of climate change. It is getting harder to know when such events will happen, so people must be ready for more flooding.
Difficult words: flash flood (a sudden local flood, typically because of heavy rain), sandbag (a bag full of sand people usually use to keep something safe), disaster zone (a place where a very serious accident happened).
You can watch the original video in the Level 3 section.
What measures are people in Poland taking to prevent water from entering their homes during the floods?
