Charity helps young people with cancer – level 3
08-01-2025 07:00
Seven young people aged 13 to 24 in the UK hear the words ‘you have cancer’ every day. Teenage Cancer Trust is the only UK charity dedicated to providing vital care for them.
It funds specialist nurses, youth support teams, and unique hospital units that feel more like home than hospitals. The charity faces immense challenges, with cancer cases among young people rising and funding harder to secure. CEO Kate Collins highlights the urgent need for support. The impact of their services is profound. Ben, diagnosed at 21, found hope through their Cardiff unit, saying, ‘It changed my outlook and helped me connect with others who understood.’ Chloe, now cancer-free, recalls how the Bristol ward and its community kept her going during treatment. Young people need the charity more than ever during the time of challenges.
Every donation not only supports services but raises awareness of the challenges young people with cancer face, ensuring no young person battles alone.
Difficult words: vital (necessary), immense (extremely large or great), profound (very great or intense), ward (a separate room in a hospital).
