China spy in US government – level 2

09-09-2024 07:00

Linda Sun used to work for New York Governor Kathy Hochul. It is possible that she secretly worked for the Chinese government.

Prosecutors say that Sun and her husband, Christopher Hu, took millions of dollars, luxury gifts, and special food from China in exchange for helping China. They allegedly used this money to buy houses and expensive cars. Prosecutors say that Sun changed important documents and canceled meetings about Taiwan to help China. She and her husband say that they did nothing wrong. Sun was fired from her job last year when this information came up. Media and officials are interested in this case because of the difficult relationship between the US and China right now.

Difficult words: prosecutor (a legal official who says that someone did something wrong), in exchange (if you do or give something to get something else), allegedly (when people say that something happened).

You can watch the original video in the Level 3 section.

What are the allegations against Linda Sun and her husband, Christopher Hu, in relation to their supposed secret work for the Chinese government?
