COP28 deal – level 1
15-12-2023 07:00
The Cop28 summit takes place in the United Arab Emirates. It lasts two weeks. Nearly 200 countries speak about climate change.
COP28 ends with a deal. Countries must stop using fossil fuels. It is the only way to stop climate change. The deal says that all nations should reach zero emissions by 2050. The summit president, Sultan Al Jaber, says that it is a big and historic response to the Paris Agreement. Countries do not follow the Paris agreement.
Some people are happy with the deal. But others say that it does not do enough to stop pollution. Some countries need more help because of changing weather. The next meeting, COP29, will be in Baku, Azerbaijan, next November.
Difficult words: fossil fuels (coal, oil, and gas), historic (very important), pollution (making the air, water or soil dirty).
You can watch the original video in the Level 3 section.
What was the main goal of the COP28 summit deal and what issues do some countries still face in reducing their emissions?
