Copenhagen and climate change – level 1
26-08-2024 07:00
Copenhagen is the capital of Denmark. There is a big flood in 2011. Many things change after the flood.
The city starts over 300 projects. They must protect the city from floods and bad weather. Workers are making underground tunnels to move rainwater away. They are making green spaces with trees to help with water.
These projects cost 2 billion dollars. It is a lot of money but they will help the city stay safe in the future. Other cities are watching Copenhagen. They want to learn how to protect themselves.
Difficult words: flood (when there is too much water in rivers), protect (to keep safe).
You can watch the original video in the Level 3 section.
What are some of the measures being taken in Copenhagen to protect the city from floods and bad weather?
