COVID-19 is still here – level 2

09-08-2024 07:00

The World Health Organization (WHO) is telling governments to work harder on vaccine programs because COVID-19 is still a big problem.

WHO officials said that COVID-19 cases are going up worldwide. In Europe, more than 20% of tests are positive. Data from 84 countries shows a rise in positive tests. The number of positive tests is different in each region but is still worrying.

Also, at least 40 athletes at the Olympic Games tested positive for COVID-19 or other respiratory illnesses. Many countries see more virus cases in all seasons, which means the virus is spreading more than we thought. Governments need to understand the virus better and more people need to get a vaccine.

Difficult words: region (an area), respiratory (related to breathing), spread (to move from one place to another).

You can watch the original video in the Level 3 section.

What percentage of tests in Europe are showing positive results for COVID-19?
