Digital parenting – level 2
23-09-2024 07:00
Many parents now check their children’s locations and online activities to keep them safe.
Some children feel okay with this, as it makes them feel safe. But others feel their parents control them too much which impacts their social lives or schoolwork. Some teenagers find ways to get around these controls, which can make things worse.
Experts say that when parents are too strict, kids may rebel and break the rules. It is better to talk with children openly about technology and teach them to choose carefully what they do. As children grow older, they should learn to be responsible online, and parents should stop monitoring them. Some teens think they should stop being tracked by the time they are 16.
Difficult words: location (where someone or something is), rebel (to act against control), monitor (to check).
You can watch the original video in the Level 3 section.
What do experts suggest as an alternative to strict parental control over children's online activities and why?
