Drones deliver letters – level 2
08-08-2023 07:00
Orkney, a UK island group, now employs drones to deliver mail. Royal Mail and Skyports launched Orkney I-Port, and they want to move letters and parcels between islands.
This initiative uses electric drones for delivery. At first, it will run for three months and it will possibly continue. Orkney has a special landscape and close islands. Drones will improve service and delivery time to Graemsay and Hoy, which often have problems because of bad weather and geography.
The drones operate with the Speedbird Aero DLV-2 drone and they can carry up to 6 kilograms. Royal Mail hopes that the project will help reduce carbon emissions.
Difficult words: parcel (a box which people send by post), initiative (a new plan or process to achieve something or solve a problem), landscape (an area of land).
You can watch the original video in the Level 3 section.
What are the potential benefits of electric drones for mail delivery in Orkney?
