Dubai floods – level 2
23-04-2024 15:00
Dubai International Airport is one of the busiest airports in the world. Last week, a big storm brought torrential rain to the United Arab Emirates and flooded the airport.
In one day, there was more rain than in the whole year. The rain damaged many things and even caused one person to die. The streets in Dubai looked like rivers because of all the water. The airport still had problems after the rain stopped. Many planes were on the ground, so there was not enough space. Lots of people got stuck at the airport because the airport canceled flights.
Experts say that as the world gets warmer, we might see more big storms like this one, even in places where rain is not usual at all.
Difficult words: torrential rain (very heavy rain), stuck (not able to move from a place or position).
You can watch the original video in the Level 3 section.
What precautions can be taken to prevent major disruptions and damage at airports in the event of severe weather conditions like the one experienced in Dubai last week?
