Elephants in Botswana – level 1

29-05-2019 07:00

In Botswana, there are 130,000 elephants. Botswana is the country with the most elephants in Africa. Before 2014, people can hunt elephants in Botswana.

Then the country wants to protect the elephants. It bans hunting. Now, there are conflicts between people and elephants. Botswana wants to protect elephants. However, it must protect people, too.

Botswana stops the ban. Now people can hunt elephants. However, they must have a licence. Botswana wants to give out up to 400 licenses a year.

Difficult words: hunt (shoot/kill), ban (say that people cannot/ must not do something), conflict (problem, fight).

You can watch the original video in the Level 3 section.
