EU countries ban phones in schools – level 1

03-07-2024 07:00

A German school wants to ban mobile phones for teachers and students. This makes people argue. Some people think that a total ban is not good.

Students who use their phones a lot do worse at school. Many schools in Germany and other countries don’t allow phones in classes. France, Italy, the UK, and the Netherlands already do not use phones in schools. This school in Nortorf bans phones for two days a week. At first, teachers and parents do not like it. Children in villages need to communicate. But students play and talk more during breaks. They focus better.

Using phones in classes can help students learn, too. Some schools use games like Minecraft for teaching. Nortorf stops the phone ban. But the ban changes how students use their phones.

Difficult words: total ban (when something is not officially possible at all), communicate (to speak or write to each other), focus (to concentrate on one thing).

You can watch the original video in the Level 3 section.

What are some potential benefits and drawbacks of using mobile phones in schools, as seen in the example of Nortorf?
