European roads are full of holidaymakers – level 2

01-08-2024 07:00

Traffic jams are causing problems in Europe as people go on summer holidays.

In Germany, Croatia, and Slovenia, there is a lot of traffic. The German Automobile Club (ADAC) says these weeks will have some of the worst traffic jams of the year. In Bavaria, tourists are traveling to Italy and Austria. Last weekend, they caused 14 kilometers of traffic jams on the A8 motorway. In Slovenia, traffic is bad because the school holidays just started. Authorities are telling drivers to take breaks and drink enough water.

In Croatia, there are long lines because of many travelers and accidents. There is a big traffic jam between Zadar East and Zadar Center and at the Split ferry port. The Croatian Tourist Board is giving water bottles and car air fresheners to tourists at toll plazas and ferry ports.

Difficult words: traffic jam (too many cars on the road), traffic (cars on roads), toll plaza (a place where you must stop and pay money before you go onto a highway).

You can watch the original video in the Level 3 section.

What measures are authorities in Slovenia and Croatia taking to help drivers during the traffic jams?
