Government in Italy – level 1

Every country has a government. In Italy, the League party and the Five Star Movement are in a coalition. They are the government.

Giuseppe Conte is the leader of the Five Star Movement. He is also the prime minister. Matteo Salvini is the leader of the League.

However, the League party quits the coalition. There is no government now. Many people say that the League wants a new government where Salvini is the prime minister.

He does not become the new prime minister. The Five Star Movement makes a new coalition with the Democratic Party. Giuseppe Conte stays prime minister.

Difficult words: government (the group of people who are the “bosses” of a country), party (a group of politicians who work together because they want to do same things), coalition (a group of two or more parties which work together to make be a government).
