Greece has little water – level 2
09-09-2024 15:00
Lake Mornos in Greece, which provides water for nearly half the country, is shrinking because of bad weather.
After a winter with almost no snow and a summer of very hot weather and little rain, the lake is now at its lowest level in many years. As the water goes down, the old village of Kallio, which disappeared in the water in 1980, is appearing again. The land around the lake is dry and cracked. Scientists say that climate change is making the weather worse and causing problems like wildfires.
Local leaders and experts are worried that if the next winter has no rain, things will get even worse. This shows how serious the effects of global warming are becoming.
Difficult words: provide (to give), shrink (to get smaller), cracked (damaged with thin lines on the top).
You can watch the original video in the Level 3 section.
What are the potential consequences if the next winter at Lake Mornos also experiences no rain, according to local leaders and experts?
