France, Italy, and other EU countries are helping Greece fight big wildfires near Athens.

Firefighters found a woman’s body in a burned factory, and many people got hurt as the fires spread quickly. The situation is very serious, there are many fires in different places. People who live north of Athens had to leave their homes because of the danger. The fires already burned through 10,000 hectares of land. Strong winds and dry weather make it hard to stop the fires, and some flames are over 25 meters high.

Greece is getting help from other EU countries, which are sending helicopters and other equipment. Some people are unhappy, they say the Greek government didn’t prepare for this situation.

Difficult words: spread (to move and cover a large area), flame (the glowing part of a fire).
