Indonesia’s new capital – level 1
22-08-2024 07:00
Indonesia celebrates its 79th Independence Day in Nusantara. Nusantara will be the country’s new capital.
This city is a big project from President Joko Widodo. But the work is slow, and the cost is high. Some government buildings are not ready yet. There are not enough hotels for the guests, so fewer people come to the celebration. The city should cost 3 billion dollars. Indonesia needs investors from abroad. But there are none at the moment.
The government says most of the first part is ready. But the work is slow now because of bad weather. The new president Prabowo Subianto says he will keep working on the city. But it’s not clear if he will make it a priority.
Difficult words: celebration (an important day or event when people are happy), investor (a person or company who put money into a business to make money from it), priority (a thing which is more important than others).
You can watch the original video in the Level 3 section.
What challenges is Nusantara facing in its development as Indonesia's new capital?
