Indonesia’s new capital – level 3
22-08-2024 07:00
Indonesia celebrated its 79th Independence Day in Nusantara, the future capital city, which is a major project of President Joko Widodo.
However, the construction of Nusantara has faced significant delays and rising costs. Key government buildings are incomplete, and the number of guests for the celebrations had to be reduced due to insufficient hotel accommodations. Despite these setbacks, the government claims that 88% of the first phase is complete, but bad weather has delayed progress. The project, estimated to cost 3 billion dollars, relies heavily on foreign and domestic investors, although no foreign investors have committed so far.
Experts worry that without this financial support, the project will progress very slowly. Although President-elect Prabowo Subianto has promised to continue the project, there are concerns about its financial viability and whether it will remain a priority for the new administration.
Difficult words: setback (a problem that delays progress), viability (ability to work successfully).
