Popular singer Justin Timberlake was arrested in the Hamptons, New York, on driving while intoxicated charge.

Timberlake, who is on a world tour, has two concerts scheduled in Chicago this weekend and two shows in New York City next week. The arrest happened early Tuesday morning, just after midnight. He was detained and charged but released without bail.

Timberlake has previously spoken about his struggles with excessive drinking. The court in Sag Harbor confirmed he would be arraigned and read the charges against him. The news has spread quickly in the US media.

Timberlake’s representatives and the Sag Harbor Police haven’t made formal statements yet. The Suffolk County District Attorney’s Office confirmed the charges but didn’t provide further details. More information is expected once Timberlake is formally charged in court.

Difficult words: intoxicated (under the influence of alcohol or drugs), bail (an amount of money that a person who has been accused of a crime pays to a law court so that they can be released until their trial), arraigned (called before a court to answer a criminal charge).
