Kosovo crisis – level 2
05-06-2023 15:00
NATO is sending more soldiers to Kosovo because there are problems with ethnic Serbs.
NATO’s boss, Jens Stoltenberg, says the fighting must stop, and NATO will do what it takes to keep everyone safe. Stoltenberg wants both sides to calm down, stop behaving badly, and start talking to each other again. Some NATO soldiers and protesters were hurt in recent clashes with ethnic Serbs. The trouble started when ethnic Albanians entered government buildings, which made the Serbs angry. Serbia sent more troops to the border with Kosovo, and the Serbs protested again. They demanded that the Albanian mayors and Kosovo police leave the northern part of Kosovo.
Difficult words: ethnic (belonging to a race or national group of people), clash (fight), demand (to ask for something).
You can watch the original video in the Level 3 section.
What measures is NATO taking to ensure the safety of all people in Kosovo?
